Ian

"My name is Ian Francis Khoo. I was born on November 6 1997. I am 11 years old and I go to S.K. Seri Bintang Utama. I like fencing because it doesn’t involve cooperation with other people (it is a single player sport) and it is a fast sport. It helps me mentally and physically in life."

Juniors Fencing

Ray Choo (46) - Assistant Vice President Americal International Assurance BHD

"It is exhilarating after each fencing lesson; helping my focus, physical fitness and most of all kept me alert all the time (from being stab by my opponent). I think it is a noble martial art, respecting each other with the right away ethic, the finesse and yet aggressive in weaponry. Whats more a formal Dutch champion is here to stay as personal coach with international class equipped fencing school in Malaysia."

7 reasons how you benefit from fencing
And why you should start fencing today without any delay!

1 Fencing is a very exciting sport, you'll LOVE it...
2 Fencing builds your stamina big time...
3 Fencing teaches you discipline...
4 Fencing teaches you to make fast decisions...
5 Fencing shapes up your body powerfully...
6 Fencing sharpens your focus like you have never done before...
7 And above all Fencing is fun...

Now let me explain each point to you. You have read till so far, now keep on reading.

How exciting can fencing be?

Do you remember Zorro, Musketeers or the Jedi Knights? Did you watch any of them?
Did you not thought by your self that it looked fast and exciting. And did you never wanted to fence like Zorro. And leave your initials on the bad guys suit? Or wield the light saber like Master Luke. Now you can In Ampang Fencing Centre.

Fencing builds stamina.

I hear you thinking how this statement above makes sense. None of the silver screen heroes ever breaks a sweat. True thats why they are actors. In the real fencing you do. This is what makes it such an attractive sport if you want to lose weight or become fitter. To give you a comparison with more well known sports. Fencing is on par with sport like Badminton and Squash when it comes to burning calories and time for time fencing burns more!

Fencing teaches discipline.

Well how then by instruction? No, the discipline comes from within you. Contrary to popular belief that fencing is easy to do. Image yourself sword in hand there you come blazing at your opponent, stop here you did not think that it is that easy. First of all your opponent will see you come and will be ready and waiting for you. But you wanted to attack so desperately because it feels so good. In fencing you have to wait and find the right opportunity. So no more impulsive behaviour. In short you have to learn to hold on to your horses! Discipline discipline!

Learn to make fast decisions

Did you ever see real fencing on TV (Euro sport has fencing a few times a year) If you seen it you know Fencing is fast, very quick. For somebody new to the sport it may be too difficult to follow. A lot of times fencers have options when they do their fencing actions. It maybe unobvious to the newcomer. I speak from my experience of 25 years. Fencers have to weigh their options and decide in mere fraction of a second which option they choose. And all of this under great pressure! Come learn fencing with Ampang Fencing Centre and we teach you how.

Fencing shapes your body

Fencing utilizes a lot of the bodys muscles especially the hips and thy muscles. Fencing is not body building but because of the fast character of the sport muscles in fencing get well trained and well shaped.

You learn to focus and concentrate

A fencer has to watch every move of his opponent very carefully in order to prepare his own action. The focus and concentration that are needed for this is enourmous. It is not uncommon for fencers not to hear or feel anything when fencing because of the deep focus and concentration. It is something difficult to describe but if you are new to fencing it is something that will increase when you start fencing.

Fencing is fun

If you like to compete, fencing is for you. You dont need a personal trainer. You and your opponent will push each other to the limits having lots of fun.
If you have read till here, then you must have lots of questions. I will try to answer most frequent questions.

7 More reasons why you should to choose to fence with Ampang Fencing Center.

1. Fencing Time: Means how much time you spent fencing and how much time you spent waiting. Let me explain if there is 1 piste (a piste is the place where the actual fencing takes place) 2 people can fence. It takes on average 5 minutes for one bout of 5 points. If there are 4 people it will take 10 minutes before your next bout is 10 min waiting. At AFC we find 10 minutes too long.
We want you to fence and minimize your waiting time. It should be no more than one bout or around 5 minutes. At AFC we have 8 pistes and we calculate 3 fencers per piste. AFC has the capacity for 24 people per training session

2. AFC has 8 pistes of which 6 are metal

For the Weapons Epee and Foil, the scoring apparatus cannot distinguish between the floor and the body of the fencer. But with the metal piste, this is possible. Especially for Epee where the feet is also target area. This is a great advantage, for the foil when you hit the floor there will be no interuption of the game flow.

3. AFC is fully air coned

This is a necessity since fencers wear a fencing uniform which together with the fast action can warm up the body quite quickly.

4. AFC has video facilities

We use the DVDs to teach our students tactics, strategies and the rules of the game from top class fencers.

5. Training and individual lesson

Individual lessons are given at the time best suited to the fencer. Duration of the lesson is 20 minutes. The individual sessions are intensive as it best prepares the fencer for the exact fencing bout. With intensity we mean you are being stretched to your limits.

The groups training provided by AFC always starts with a group warming up followed by stretching session. This is important because fencing is an explosive sport with cold muscle injuries are possible which takes away the joy of fencing. After the stretching depending on the level of the group, there will be exercises followed by video presentation and bout fencing.

6. Electrical fencing

AFC has the latest fencing scoring equipment. The international Fencing Federation has changed the timing for the weapons of foil and saber and this makes a difference in the fencing. Please check whether your fencing centre has the latest models. All pistes in AFC are equipped with repeater boxes one on each side of the piste which makes it easier to see the scoring lights.

Remember if you do not fence electrically you are fencing in the dark ages.

7. The flooring

At AFC we have sports flooring and our metal pistes are backed up by soft cork flooring. This is to be gentle on the joints and knees. Most other fencing centers have either a concrete or parquet flooring. Parquet is just as hard as concrete and slippery as well. We are very particular about quality and care of our Members!
